First Time, Top US General Admits China Conducts Hypersonic Weapon Test

WASHINGTON – General United States of America (USA) Mark Milley admits for the first time that China have done a test hypersonic missile which took some by surprise. He called the test event near what he called the “Sputnik moment.”

Milley coined phrases such as “the Sputnik moment,” referring to the satellite that was launched by the Soviet Union and made it lapse in front of the US in the space race in 1957.

“I don’t know if it was a Sputnik moment, but I think it was very close to it,” he said.

“That incident got all of our attention,” he added in an interview on Bloomberg Television Newsweek, Wednesday (27/10/2021).

Two days before the US Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed classified elements of US intelligence, the Pentagon said China’s efforts to advance its military capabilities would only increase tensions in the region and beyond.

“But it’s just one weapon system. China’s military capabilities are far greater than that. They thrive — in space, in cyberspace and then in the traditional land, sea and air domains,” he said, emphasizing the Pentagon’s statement.

According to Milley, China’s armed forces, collectively known as the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), are now a highly capable military that spans all domains and has global ambitions.

“So China is very significant on our horizon,” he stressed.
