Price and availability

Design and screen

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE comes with Samsung’s current design, with its flat frame and three camera modules attached to the back. The frame is made of Armor aluminum, like the big brothers of the S series, and gives an impression of quality. With the S24 FE, you really feel like you have a “real” high-end smartphone in your hands.

The front and back glass have been improved compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE (test): Samsung uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ instead of Gorilla Glass 5 on the S24 FE. Like its predecessor, the S24 FE is also IP68 certified.

If we hold the predecessor and its successor side by side, we notice that the FE has grown in 2024. With 6.7 inches, the screen is now on the same level as the S24+ – the S23 FE was still 6, 4 inches. The smartphone itself grows at the same time as the screen, namely by 4 mm in length and 1 mm in width.

The 120Hz display can also reduce the refresh rate by up to 1Hz to save power. On the S23 FE, the minimum was still 60 Hz. The brightness also increased by 450 and 200 nits, respectively 1900 and 1200 nits (HBM). Under the Berlin sun at the end of summer, readability is perfect, even if current high-end smartphones do even better.

Performance and SoC

Like other current S-class smartphones, the S24 FE integrates the Galaxy AI’s various AI features, from Circle to Search and AI navigation to live translator, various camera and video functions. image processing. You will find an overview of the different AI functions in our Galaxy AI review.

The battery offers a typical capacity of 4700 mAh for this category of smartphones. As always, the charging speed is below average compared to Xiaomi: 25 W maximum is possible via cable, wireless charging is available with 15 W maximum.

Samsung is really strong when it comes to Android updates. As with the entire S24 range, the manufacturer promises seven years of Android updates and seven years of security patches. As a reminder, the predecessor had a duration of four and five years respectively.

The last important point concerns the camera. Two-thirds of the rear configuration is the same as the Galaxy S24 and S23 FE, with 12 MP ultra-wide angle and 50 MP for the main camera. The 3x zoom, however, has been reduced to 8 MP – Samsung uses the same camera module here as in the S23 FE.

Ultimately, you shouldn’t expect a quantum leap compared to its predecessor in terms of image quality. The selfie camera has also been slightly reduced compared to the regular S24, with 10 versus 12 MP, and is on par with the old FE.

Conclusion

In recent years, the Fan Edition has moved dangerously close to the normal base model of the Galaxy S line, both in size and price – the S23 was even cheaper than last year’s Fan Edition when it was released. launch, which made the whole point of the model questionable to say the least.

Is it better this year for the launch of the Fan Edition? The idealo price comparison lists the S24+ with 256 GB of memory from just over 800 euros – with the same capacity, the recommended retail price of the S24 FE is 809 euros. At least before the first price drop and at the recommended retail price, the Fan Edition is therefore unfortunately questionable again and will only make sense when the price has stabilized well below the “plus” in a few months.

In 2024, you should no longer buy the 128 GB variant for 749 euros – nor any other smartphone with this little memory.
