Mücke-Merlau (sf). The German Red Cross (DRK) Mücke had another successful blood donation event during the autumn holidays. 50 fellow citizens gathered at the Anna Weidig House in Merlau to donate their blood and thus make a valuable contribution to health care. Particularly noteworthy: six people decided to donate blood for the first time on this day and a special thank you goes to them.

For the DRK Mücke, blood donations are an indispensable part of medical care. First-time donors in particular play a special role. The chairman of the DRK Mücke, Matthias Weitzel, emphasizes: “Every blood donation saves lives, but the first step is always the most difficult. We are extremely grateful that six people decided to donate blood for the first time on this day. You have taken a courageous step and set an example for others.«

Among those who donated blood for the first time that day were: Luis Herr from Mücke, Jonas Liehr from Grünberg, Kim Kerscher from Lich and Isabell Preimel from Mücke.

Weitzel particularly appreciated her willingness to work for the well-being of other people: “Donating blood doesn’t just mean saving another person’s life. It is also a contribution to your own health. Every donor undergoes a comprehensive health check, which provides important insights into their own health condition.«

In addition to the first-time donors, the DRK also wants to honor those people who have been donating blood regularly for many years. This continued willingness deserves great respect. A number of multiple donors were honored that evening for their extraordinary commitment: For ten blood donations each: Lara Sann and Leon Kratz, both from Mücke.

Role model honored

A special role model is Albert Tröller from Ruppertenrod, who made his 126th blood donation that day. »Albert Tröller is a shining example of tireless commitment to the benefit of other people. Such people inspire us all,” emphasized Weitzel. »Without this constant support it would not be possible to meet the great need for blood donations.«

The success of the blood donation event would not have been possible without the commitment of the many volunteers. A special thank you went to the organizers and helpers who ensured that the blood donation went smoothly. Julia Myska took care of the registration and ensured that all data was recorded correctly and the health questionnaires were filled out.

Uwe Zeuner and Monika Belloff were on duty at various points in the donor area and in the relaxation room to assist the donors at all times.

Ulf Immo Bovensmann, deputy head of the DRK Mücke, organized the process. “A big thank you goes to everyone who made this blood donation possible with their time and commitment,” said Bovensmann. »Many of our volunteers sacrifice their free time or leave work early to help donate blood. Without her, such a successful appointment would be unthinkable.«

Next appointment in December

At a time when blood supplies are in short supply and demand is constantly growing, every donor aged 18 and over – whether a first-time donor or a repeat donor – is an indispensable part of health care. The DRK Mücke organizes six blood donation appointments every year and continues to call on the population to actively participate. The next opportunity to donate blood is on Friday, December 13th, again at the Anna Weidig House in Merlau.

“We hope that many people will decide to donate blood again at our next appointment and are looking forward to seeing many familiar but also new faces,” concludes Matthias Weitzel.

However, the DRK Mücke not only stands for blood donations, but is also committed to the well-being of the community in many other areas. Whether in the clothing store, in the medical service or donating blood – numerous volunteers are on duty every day.

“More than 50 volunteers are available at the DRK Mücke to help others,” explains Marius Zimmer, head of the DRK Mücke. »Whether as a helper in the clothing store, as a pilot of the Red Cross drone or as a radio operator in the command vehicle – we offer many opportunities to get involved.«
