First sod for new energy warehouse in Katrineholm

The energy storage takes care of the electricity when there is a surplus, and then gives it back to the system when there is a shortage. This helps to increase the use of existing infrastructure while reducing the need for long-term investments in new infrastructure. In addition, the energy storage provides the conditions for a more stable, secure and flexible electricity supply system, which is crucial for the electricity-intensive industries of the future.

– From the municipality, we look positively at this type of investment that can help secure the supply of electricity, here in Katrineholm as well as in the rest of Sweden. Energy storage like this brings benefits to both network owners and electricity consumers, both businesses and individuals, by creating stability in the electricity supply. In the green transition, it is of the utmost importance that the production of electricity, the transmission capacity and the storage possibilities increase in step with the increasing demand, says Johan Söderberg (S), chairman of the municipal board in Katrineholm municipality.

In total, the grid company Tekniska verken in Katrineholm consumes approximately 75MW at most, and Ingrid Capacity’s facility is 20MW, which means that the facility can assist with approximately a quarter of the electricity demand in the grid during an hour when consumption is at its highest.

The facility is being built in the growing industrial and commercial area at Lövåsen.
