Just a little while and then it turns Free Guy in the cinema. It’s the new movie with Ryan Reynolds starring, directed by Shawn Levy. Today there are the first reviews. And is it worth it?
Reynolds stars in the film as Guy, a non-playable character in a major video game. But he finds out thanks to a programmer that the game will be shut down, so Guy takes matters into his own hands for the first time and decides to try and save the game.
The reviews
Today we list the reviews for you:
Entertainment Weekly: “In a genre where self-awareness has become the norm, Free Guy might have come across as manic and hollow. Instead, the film offers fun and really has a heart.”
AV Club: “There’s nothing specific about the action and the jokes in this action-comedy. Just ‘amusingly’ reproduced clichés on one side and a motorcycle driving through a window on the other.”
IndieWire: “Any movie that feels like it’s completely dead-focused should be legally required to go through some more work, and that’s certainly true for Free Guy.”
The Hollywood Reporter: “Reynolds’ infinite appeal, the often hilarious screenplay and beautifully generated technicalities make the film an amusing summer frivolity.”
Variety: “Free Guy is hugely amusing, despite the fact that Levy and the screenwriters seem to be changing the rules as they go along.”
The Guardian: “No papers will be written about Free Guy, but he does have entertainment value.”
