First responders roll up their sleeves at Boots and Badges blood drive

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sunday marked the start of the Boots and Badges blood drive.

Area firefighters and police compete to see who collects the most blood donations for the Coastal Bend Blood Center.

On Monday, Corpus Christi firefighters and officers went to the center’s offices to donate blood. The two-week friendly competition takes place during a season when donors don’t come as often.

“We want to make sure that if any member of your family needs blood, that blood is available for them,” said Corpus Christi Fire Chief Robert Rocha.

This campaign has been going on for 18 years now, and the blood center hopes to see even more support this year. You can make a donation in the name of the organization of your choice at the following locations.
