First recording of Góngora’s Cancionero published on musical platforms

Córdoba. The first world recording of the Luis de Góngora Songbook is now a reality thanks to the Góngora Chair of the University of Córdoba (UCO), which has relied on the musical study of Francisco Valdivia and Antonio Carreira to create ‘Góngora and music’ , a work that includes 39 romances and lyrics, scored by Vandalia & Ars Atlantica, and which has been produced in ‘digipack’ format and also published on the 55 best-known music platforms in the world, including Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon.

‘Góngora and music’ (was presented this Tuesday by the rector of the UCO, Manuel Torralbo, who thanked the director of the Góngora Chair, Joaquín Roses, for his work in transmitting the work of the Cordoban poet to new generations, explaining the latter that Góngora’s literary work “offers additional interest to the poetic one, given that some of his texts were set to music by composers of his time and achieved great dissemination.”

With a view to recovering this facet of Góngora’s work, and under the agreement signed with the City Council of Córdoba in 2022, the entire musical corpus was recorded, which, to date, is known to have been used by composers from Góngora’s time. and now, to make it known to Córdoba society, the songbook will be presented in a concert that will take place on June 28 at the Sala Orive.

For her part, the Councilor for Culture of the Córdoba City Council, Isabel Albás Vives, has highlighted the value of “working side by side” with the UCO, “because the best results are achieved by combining the cultural talent of Córdoba and the knowledge generated in University”.

The vice-rector of Students and Culture of the UCO, Israel Muñoz, has pointed out, for his part, that these activities of the Góngora Chair serve as precedents for the celebrations that will take place in 2027, when the 400 years since the death of Luis will be commemorated. of Góngora.

In this regard, Joaquín Roses has announced that this year the publication of the book ‘The infinite standing: eight commented poems by Góngora’ is planned, where the scientific results of several ‘online’ presentations that formed part of an activity of the Góngora Chair carried out in 2021.
