Excellent diversity.
(BZ). The regional council Freiburg (RP) has now awarded six farms for biological diversity from the districts of Ortenau, Emmendingen and Rottweil. The first prize goes to the business of Veronika and Christian Schoening in Emmendingen from Hofgut Wöpplinsberg. According to the press release, the reason says: “The Schoening family runs a comparatively large organic farm in and on the edge of the Black Forest with around 200 hectares, including 600 dairy goats and 14 cattle as well as large arable land Ideas such as the integration of micro-flowering strips in clover-grass seeds and wood strips laid out on flowering areas for shade in times of climate change. In addition, the company cultivates species-rich landscape maintenance areas and steep areas with backwoods cattle. ” The prize is endowed with 4000 euros. Other award winners come from Lahr, Dornhan, Sulz am Neckar, Schutterwald and Schenkenzell.
“With their entire economy, these companies are outstandingly committed to the preservation of biological diversity in our cultural landscape,” said District President Bärbel Schäfer at the award ceremony. In view of the extinction of species, strengthening an environmentally and climate-friendly agriculture is one of the challenges of this time.
After the premiere of the “Farms for Biological Diversity” competition in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Lörrach and Waldshut districts last year, the RP announced the competition this year for the Emmendingen, Rottweil and Ortenau districts. A total of 27 companies submitted their applications. In this project, the environmental and agricultural departments in the RP are cooperating with the districts, the landscape conservation associations, the Baden Agricultural Association, the Baden Winegrowing Association, the Baden Rural Youth Association, the Rottweil District Farmers Association, the Regional Association of Commercial Fruit Growing, the Black Forest Central / North Nature Park, the State Nature Conservation Association, the Black Forest Association and the Baden Beekeepers Association.
