First phase of the restoration of Notre-Dame in Paris has been completed | Abroad

In the first phase, the scaffolding was dismantled, the large organ removed and the buttresses reinforced. This way everything is made safe for when the real restoration work begins. That will be this winter. It starts with a thorough cleaning of the floors and interior walls.

Notre Dame was hit by a major fire in 2019. The images of it went all over the world. President Emmanuel Macron has promised that the cathedral will be restored in five years. The person in charge of the restoration, General Jean-Louis Georgelin, assumes that Notre-Dame will be open to the public again in 2024, although work will still be underway.
