First Person’s Testimony of Drinking Fresh Water at the Bottom of Hell’s Well

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Expedition Team Hell’s Well or Berhout’s Well from Yaman claimed to have tasted fresh water at the bottom of the well. The team was also the first human to find a water source at the bottom of the well.

Mohammad Al Kindi and a team of explorers say they have found some wonderful things. It was explained that the team found fresh pure spring water at the bottom of the cave to drink it.

Whereas previously rumors circulated that the Hell’s Well was famous for its myth as an “evil” cave and the water was dangerous to drink.

“We even drank a full bottle and nothing happened to us!” said Mohammad Al Kindi.

The cave expedition team from Oman reportedly managed to descend to the bottom of the well to reveal what is really at the bottom of the geological structure that is often associated with scary myths.

Mohammad and his team of cave explorers revealed that there were many snakes at the bottom of the cave. He found many snakes after spending about six hours in the cave.

“They breed when there are no predators to eat them. That’s normal,” he said.

The Well of Hell is near Yemen’s border with Oman in the eastern province of Al-Mahra.
Yemeni officials said they did not know what was under the well.

“It’s very deep – we’ve never reached the bottom of this well, because there’s very little oxygen and no ventilation,” said Salah Babhair, director general of geological surveys and Mahra’s mineral resources authority.

The borehole is known to be 30 meters wide, with a depth of more than 100 meters underground. What lies beneath is estimated to be millions of years old.

“We have visited the area and entered the well, reaching more than 50-60 meters into it. We saw strange things in it. We also smelled something strange … This is a mysterious situation,” said one of the explorer team.

Not only exploring, the team also collected samples of water, rocks and soil as well as some dead animals. They were also enchanted by the colorful cave pearls that shone through the underground waterfalls.

“Cave pearls are concentric deposits of calcium carbonate that form around the core under falling water,” said Mohammad.

Mohammad said the rings were naturally smoothed by the motion of falling water over thousands of years, forming beautiful pearls. From what Al Kindi could see, the cave was untouched by human hands or feet.

“No previous missions have been documented, so it’s not clear if anyone actually went there, although it’s hard to be 100 percent certain,” he said.

Sunlight called yak can penetrate all parts of the hole. When observing from the edge of the well, only a little can be seen. However, the birds can still fly in and out of the well.

Hell’s Well or Berhout’s Well is a mysterious place that has long been the subject of many mythologies and folklore. Through folklore, it is stated that the place is a prison for demons.

The term refers to the foul smell that comes out of the well. For centuries, folklore has circulated. It is said that there are jinn and supernatural figures who inhabit the bottom of the well.

“Some say that’s where apostates and unbelievers are tortured after death,” said the geologist and owner of the Earth Sciences Consulting Center.

Some locals believe that objects near the hole can be sucked into it. Many local residents remain nervous about visiting the big hole, or even talking about it, for fear of bad luck.

No wonder many explorers previously reluctant to descend to the bottom of the well, according to a 7 News report.

Mohammad hopes that his visit to the bottom of the Well of Hell will dispel some of the myths surrounding caves and other similar sites.

He believed that the Well of Hell was a legendary cave placed in many caves in Yemen. Now that he and his team have gone to Khasfat Foujit, the cave cannot be called by any other name than the area where it is located.
