First nervousness, then domination. Iga Świątek in the semi-final in Madrid!

Iga Świątek advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Madrid. The Pole – despite not having the best start – showed her class and dominated Beatriz Haddad Maia in the next two sets, ultimately winning 3:6, 6:0, 6:2. Summary of the match Świątek – Haddad Maia in the attached video.

Świątek felt great from the beginning of the tournament in Madrid. The Pole defeated Xiyu Wang, Sorana Cirstea and Sara Sorribes Tormo 2-0. The leader of the world ranking played in her own style, which was undoubtedly influenced by the fact that the Spanish competitions take place on clay – the favorite surface of the Raszyn player.

In the quarterfinals, Świątek faced Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Brazilian kicked the higher-ranked Maria Sakkari out of the tournament, thus proving her high performance. She also wanted to show her best side against the Pole.

And in fact, Świątek had to put in a lot of effort from the very beginning of the match. It wasn’t as easy for her as it was against Sorribes Tormo the day before. It is true that the Pole broke her rival at 3:1, but not much later she returned the favor and the score was 4:3. Later, the Brazilian repeated this feat and finally used her pass. Thus, she won the first set 6:4.

The second part of the match looked much different. Świątek switched gears and defeated her opponent in subsequent games, winning both on her serve and three times! – on the opponent’s serve, ultimately winning 6-0.

The decisive game started as expected of the first racket in the world, who first scored on her own serve, and then – making up for the loss from 15:40 – broke her opponent at the first opportunity. A moment later, however, the Brazilian made a return break, reconnecting with the WTA ranking leader. The tennis player from Raszyn near Warsaw reacted brilliantly and… broke her opponent again, and then scored on her own serve, taking the lead 4:1.

There was a close chance that in the sixth game our player would break the South American tennis player for the third time in this game. Świątek, however, missed the break point, thanks to which Haddad Maia caught a moment’s breath, prolonging her chances to reverse the set.

However, Iga Świątek is not used to squandering such advantages. In the seventh game, the first racket in the world won her serve and then broke her opponent, using the first match ball and finally triumphing 6:2 in the set.
