Deputy General Staff of the Military RussiaColonel General Sergei Rudskoy said the first stage of the operation in Ukraine achieved. quote CNNRussia will then focus on the eastern region of Ukraine, namely the Donbas.
“In general, the main mission of the first phase has been completed,” said Rudskoy, Friday (25/3).
He said that so far the fighting power of the Ukrainian military had been significantly reduced. Therefore, Russia will focus on the eastern region to liberate the Donbas region.
Rudskoy’s remarks coincided with Russian troops stalling in major cities such as Kyiv and Kharkivl.
According to Rudskoy, Russia’s aim is to damage military installations and weaken Ukrainian army personnel in the region.
“The result is not only binding their troops, preventing them from strengthening themselves in the Donbas, but also being able to pressure them until Russia can liberate the Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” Rudskoy said.
Rudskoy said it was referring to the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics led by pro -Russian separatist groups.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said his troops suffered serious losses during the invasion of Ukraine. Rudskoy then detailed that 1,251 of his soldiers were killed and 3,825 injured.
“Initially we did not plan to attack with the aim of avoiding destruction and minimizing casualties among soldiers and civilians,” Rudskoy said.
“But so far our troops have carried out their assigned tasks and have successfully completed them. Our strength and advice will focus on the main thing, the complete liberation of the Donbas,” he added.
