A Covid patient requiring special treatment who must be taken care of on the continent, was evacuated Thursday around 5.30 p.m. from Bastia hospital to Marseille aboard the army’s Puma helicopter. The intensive care unit of the Haute-Corse hospital center having only 5 beds, currently occupied, is thus relieved and is considering a second departure.
On March 22, 2020, 12 patients with Covid-19 were evacuated aboard the Tonnerre helicopter carrier to four Marseille hospitals, but this time to relieve the Ajaccio hospital.
Press release from the ARS of Corsica
“Given the saturation of the resuscitation services in Ajaccio and Bastia hospitals, the Bastia hospital center today transferred an intensive care patient to Marseille by EVASAN.
This is a patient with a severe form of Covid-19, currently placed on extracorporeal respiratory assistance (ECMO).
This medical evacuation is carried out through the military Puma, armed with a medical team from the Ajaccio Hospital Center.
This transfer is part of the activation of the regional white plan, and makes it possible to temporarily release the tension of the regional intensive care units, in a context of rapidly increasing virus circulation and with a very clear increase in patients justifying d ‘hospitalization.“
