First Look at the Nothing Phone (2) – Exclusive Preview by Marques Brownlee

Next week the Nothing Phone (2) will be introduced
However, Youtuber Marques Brownlee was given permission to show it on camera ahead of time
What new awaits us under the translucent back?

It is customary for tech companies to provide journalists or YouTubers with upcoming products in advance so that the internet is full of first impressions and reviews on the day of the launch. But rarely do these companies allow information about the upcoming product to be revealed before its premiere. However, the Nothing brand made an exception – it sent YouTuber Marques Brownlee the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) smartphone and allowed him to show it off on camera.

Like eggs eggs

Marques Brownlee shows the Nothing Phone (2) in the third part of his Dope Tech video, in the four-minute demo he focuses mainly on the back of the phone and its new capabilities – apparently the British brand did not allow him to show more.

Nothing Phone (2) looks practically the same as its predecessor, the manufacturer has only slightly lightened the dark variant and made several partial changes under the translucent (and slightly more rounded) glass on the back.

Under the glass, you can still see part of the hidden internal components, as well as a series of LED strips that make up the Glyph interface. The pattern remains the same as in the first generation, but it is interrupted in several places – this is especially noticeable in the central shape, which was one piece in the first generation, while in the second it is composed of six separate parts.

The second generation of the Glyph interface consists of a total of 33 LED zones, while the first model had only 12 of them. The new solution offers a greater number of customization of light effects, but also new ways of use. The longest part of the central figure now consists of 16 separate zones that can perform the function of a progress bar. The back of the phone can tell you, for example, the selected volume level or the remaining time when the timer is running, Nothing plans to involve third-party application developers in the game. It should already be possible to track the remaining time until the arrival of a “taxi” from Uber or a meal from the delivery service Zomato in this way. More applications are to be added in the future.

Nothing will also allow the upper right part of the image to light up if you receive a notification from a selected “important” app. Also new is the Glyph Composer, which allows you to compose your own ringtone and accompanying light show. This novelty should also be available for the first Nothing Phone, although of course with a smaller number of usable LED strips.

The Nothing Phone (2) will be unveiled next week on July 11th, with an unveiling event starting at 5pm PT.
