The BMW i Vision Dee is one of the stars of CES 2023 in Las Vegas, but also has to share the attention on stage with other automotive celebrities: Not only BMW boss Oliver Zipse and “Knight Rider” David Hasselhoff were present at the presentation Place , the legendary VW Beetle “Herbie” with the starting number 53 and Michael Knight’s company car “KITT” did not miss Dee’s world premiere. Of course, this is no coincidence: Herbie and KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) already had their head and were intended to prove that a car can certainly have other abilities than driving.
Unlike Herbie and KITT, who only owed their wit to the screenwriters, BMW Dee should come true with the new 2025 class and inspire not only actors and spectators but also real customers. Just as was the case with Michael Knight and KITT, BMW drivers should therefore be able to interact with their vehicle in a completely natural way. Features like “Get me out of here!” uttered in the smartwatch with the subsequent retirement by the self-driving car will probably still be a dream for the future, but some other aspects of the emotional connection to the almost human-looking car should definitely go into the series.
The live photos from CES 2023 in Las Vegas also give us further impressions of the countless possibilities that arise from color E Ink foiling. In addition to Herbie and KITT’s abilities, BMW Dee can recolor his skin in a variety of ways in seconds, so he should also be well positioned for chases and the like.
And while KITT still needed a silent mode in order to be able to drive largely silently in some situations, the BMW Dee comes with an electric motor as standard. As usual, the Munich company does not provide any information on driving the vision car, but the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology has already been confirmed for the new class of 2025 – the cornerstones of a current BMW i4 M50 with 544 PS and a range of up to 519 kilometers will then be permanently eclipsed: Thanks to the new battery technology, a range of up to 800 kilometers should be possible and it can be assumed that the last word has not yet been said in terms of performance.
