First Lebanese Film Festival in Mexico

Two days of screenings with 16 short films and one feature film of contemporary Lebanese directors, never before seen in our country in the First Lebanese Film Festival in Mexico and Latin America, EASY; which will take place at the Lebanese Center in Mexico City this August 30th and 31st. This festival seeks to promote filmmakers as well as to make visible and distribute the stories and perspectives of Lebanese directors that show a Lebanon that is not usually seen.

“A highlight of FECIL is that we are committed to Lebanese films with narratives for peacecontrasting with the way Hollywood and some of the international media have portrayed this region, promoting stereotypes and replicating violence,” Ginger Jabbourdirector of FECIL

In the selection of short films it includes 10 Lebanese female directors: Marilyne Naaman, Nadien Imad El Sayegh, Ginger Jabbour, Eliane Maroun Zouein, Carol Hadjan, Carly Hannah, Assil Khalife, Elyssa Skaff, Feyrouz Serhal and Lea Manasseh

The festival also offers activities such as master classes with guests from Lebanon, as well as culinary experiences and the presentation of dabke, the traditional dance of the region.

The First Lebanese Film Festival in Mexico and Latin America, FECIL will be this August 30th and 31st in in the Lebanese Center, Hermes UnitHermes Street 67, Credit Constructor Neighborhood, Benito Juarez Municipality, CDMX.

Among the films you can see are:

Room 16 (Room 16), by Dany K. Saliba: Winner of the Lebanese Independent Film Festival, Sweden Awards and Best Director at the Europe Film Festival UK

Echoes, by Julien Kobersy: winner of the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam 2022 and nominated at over 10 festivals including the Casablanca Arab Film Festival and the Short Shot Fest in Moscow.

And if the sun plunged into the ocean of clouds (Si el sol se ahogara en un mar de nubes), by Wissam Charaf: nominated for best short film at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, 2023 Stockholm Film Festival and Montpellier Mediterránean Film Festival.
