For the first time, the city of Volkmarsen invites you to the Kugelsburg spectacle. On Saturday and Sunday, September 2nd and 3rd, there will be a colorful program by Volkmarsen for Volkmarser at the landmark. Many clubs and private individuals are involved in the implementation of the festival.
Volkmarsen – The parking lots at the Kugelsburg will be converted into a marketplace for the weekend. Almost 20 stands will find a place there. There are floristry and decorations, pottery and medicinal herbs for visitors, as well as delicacies such as oven cakes, waffles, crêpes, mead and wine. There will also be information stands, including information about the Greentrail and the Volkmarser Musikverein. Demonstrations are also planned, for example by the history association on blacksmith and rope work.
An army camp will be built above the parking lot, which will be used by the Korbacher Verein Strack Duer and will offer an insight into life in the Middle Ages. There is also the possibility of archery, games and activities for children and music on the stage in the Palas and in the marquee, which will be in front of the restaurant for the spectacle.
Shuttle service with buses
On Saturday, September 2nd, there will be two guided tours of the city as an unofficial start to the festival. Those interested can take part in a taster hike on the H9 path on both days.
Because the parking spaces at the castle are used for the festival, access for cars is not possible on the weekend. The only exception: there will be parking spaces for the disabled. All other visitors use the parking areas in the city, for example at the Nordhessenhalle, on the market square or the castle swimming pool. The Kugelsburg can be reached on foot via the “Donkey Path”. If you prefer to drive, a shuttle service with nine-seater buses will be set up. It will commute between the train station, Nordhessenhalle, Burgschwimmbad and Kugelsburg every quarter of an hour. One euro is charged per person per trip. The shuttle is available between 1pm and 1am on Saturday and 9am to 7pm on Sunday.
Carolin Ramus took over the organization on behalf of the city administration, but the interest of the population to help shape it is great, says Mayor Hendrik Vahle. The finance, construction and program working groups worked together.
Sustainability will also play a role. Using dishes is too time-consuming, also in terms of personnel, but for all stand operators there is a requirement not to use plastic dishes, but to use cardboard or wood instead, says Vahle. It is planned that cups with the Volkmarsen logo will be purchased. These should then also be used for other events such as the Christmas market. The festival ends on Sunday with a balloon competition. The balloons are biodegradable.
In the future, according to the plan, the festival will take place every year on the first weekend in September, Vahle announces. In order to make it known, 20,000 flyers have been printed, which can be distributed from the beginning of August. Posters are also put up.
