First itching, now comeback. The legendary Robben returns to football after a year

Former Dutch national team member Arjen Robben is returning to football after a one-year break.

Although the 2010 world vice-champion announced the end last July, he has now agreed on a contract with Groningen, where he started a professional career twenty years ago.

“I helped the club in various ways during the coronary crisis and I thought about how to be even more useful. At first it was just such itching, but now it’s my goal and I’m working on returning to football,” said Robben, 36, on Groningen’s website. he finished ninth place in the season of the Dutch league.

However, Robben admitted that it could easily be not enough at the highest level. “I don’t know how it will all turn out. But I have the motivation, the determination and my dream is to play for Groningen again,” added the midfielder, who has two months to prepare, as the new year of the Dutch league should start on August 12.

Robben originally finished football last year after ten years in Bayern Munich, where he still coached often. He won eight titles with the Bavarian club and won the Champions League with him. He added two league triumphs in Chelsea and one each in Real Madrid and PSV Eindhoven. With the national team, he was second at the 2010 World Cup and won bronze four years later.
