“An Iraqi citizen who illegally entered the Republic of Lithuania agreed to use our help and financial payment and decided to return home,” said the head of the department, Agne Bilotaite.

The ministry noted that at least 10 more citizens of Iraq and other countries who illegally crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border are ready to leave the country.

According to Bilotaite, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is ready to provide financial support to migrants who are not granted asylum in Lithuania in voluntary deportation, if they submit a request and cooperate.

It is indicated that since April this year, the Migration Department has made 128 decisions to refuse to grant asylum, mainly to Iraqi citizens. None of the new arrivals were granted asylum.

According to the latest data, 4,115 migrants illegally crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border this year.

We will remind, on August 3, the authorities Lithuania deported the first illegal immigrant from Belarus. A citizen of Cameroon was expelled to his country of residence.
