More than 300 people from seven countries participate for two days in Córdoba in the First International Congress of Research and Innovation on Children’s Rights (Crecer), organized with the aim of projecting the importance of the education of children in present and future society, involving the different social agents. The event “arises from the extensive history and experience in educational research and innovation of the Incide Group (Childhood, Citizenship, Democracy and Education) of the University of Córdoba (UCO) and the Educational Equity and Inclusion Group of the University of Murcia.
The congress, which will last until this Thursday, was inaugurated at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology of the University of Córdoba, by the rector of the UCO, Manuel Torralbo Rodríguez; the president of the Social Council of the UCO, Francisco Muñoz Usano; the subdelegate of the Government in Córdoba, Ana María López Losilla; the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, Adolfo Molina Rascón; the dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology, María del Mar García Cabrera; the president of the Andalusian School Council, Manuel Pérez García; and the president of the organizing committee of the congress, Rosario Mérida Serrano, who have agreed to highlight the importance of this meeting that aims to become a platform that seeks to catalyze the work of all those who play a crucial role in education from the early stages.
In this sense, the rector of the University of Córdoba has pointed out that “more and more, we are aware of the importance of the first educational stage in we sow what is going to happen later and there are many challenges ahead, which this “Congress can help us promote.” Torralbo congratulated himself on the institutional involvement in this meeting.
The organizing committee of “Crecer” is co-chaired by Mónica Vallejo Ruiz, from the University of Murcia, and Rosario Mérida Serrano, from the University of Córdoba, who in her speech highlighted that the response obtained in this edition has exceeded all expectations and endorses the aspiration of becoming “a platform that promotes the motivation and professional passion of the teaching staff, seeking to “draw a training line that spans the entire professional career, from university students to in-service teachers.” Mérida stated that “we are all called upon by the need to project the importance of the formation of our childhood in current and future society. And to achieve this, it is imperative to involve all relevant social sectors, from education and research professionals to the family, also thinking about policy makers and citizens in general.”
The president of the Social Council of the University of Córdoba has highlighted the appropriateness of the name of the Congress, CRECER, “because education is growth, research is growth, university is growth and inclusion is growth.”
The subdelegate of the Government in Córdoba has stated that “from the family, from the school, from the administrations, from the institutions, we are obliged to respond to these challenges that we face in this society.” López has expressed his hope that “the results are magnificent, that you have a good critical dose in everything that now needs to be obtained, and that of course the Government of Spain will be very attentive to these results to take them into account in the application of the policies, of the different educational policies.” The delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba has also referred to the need for this congress, which he has described as “a crucial milestone in our collective commitment to the rights of children.” “We know that the first years of life are essential for the positive, emotional and social development of boys and girls and it is during those years where the foundations are established on which they build their future.” “We need an inclusive society, which has more concepts such as solidarity, mutual respect, listening, on the contrary, knowing that the person in front of us is not the enemy, but rather someone who complements us, and we do that from the earliest age of childhood, as we are going to talk about here.”
The president of the Andalusian School Council has stated that “ensuring the rights of children depends on everyone. Pérez highlighted that this meeting is “an opportunity to debate and share experiences and explore new perspectives on children’s rights and their impact on educational practice.” “I trust that each session, each presentation, each conversation will help us create educational environments that are fairer, more inclusive and respectful of human rights.”
CRECER aims to become a platform that drives the motivation and professional passion of those in charge of early childhood education, providing an intersectional context in which initial and ongoing teacher training go hand in hand. It is about drawing a training line that goes through the entire professional career, from university students to in-service teachers with the participation of specialists in the subject from different Spanish, Portuguese and South American universities, in response to “the need for project the importance of the formation of our childhood in the present and future society.”
The meeting, in addition to the objective already described, seeks to “boost the motivation and professional passion of those in charge of early childhood education, providing a context of intersection between initial and permanent teacher training.”
The event also aims to “analyze the influence that the digital social scenario has on boys and girls, and establish a debate forum, in which educational experts will participate, at a theoretical and practical level”, in order to ” “know and analyze the most up-to-date proposals for the development of childhood, from an interdisciplinary and international approach.”
