New Delhi: The Pune Serum Institute has successfully cultured the cells of the genetically modified corona virus. ICMR made the announcement on Twitter. The ICMR claims to be the first in the world to cultivate the cells of a genetically modified virus.
Culture is the process of finding out how virus cells grow outside of nature. The ICMR said samples needed for the procedure were collected from those who had returned from the UK and confirmed the disease. The researchers cultured the cells using Vero cell lines. Researchers also say that cats need to be included in any precautionary measures against the virus.
So far, 33 people from the UK have confirmed the genetically modified virus in the country.
