First impressions of Xiaomi 14T Pro. An unexpected revelation or an expensive disappointment?

Xiaomi follows in the footsteps of the greatest… sort of. Is this good information?

The first thing that immediately catches your attention is the contents of the box – but if you were interested in today’s Xiaomi premiere a little earlier, you know exactly what I mean. In the Xiaomi 14T or 14T Pro box, of course, you will find the phone itself, waste paper, a key for the SIM drawer, a case and a cable. Unfortunately, the charger is no longer included in the set (although, as I wrote, the phone case is still available). Ecology? Avarice? I leave it to your own judgment. There is no doubt, however, that this is a big loss – especially in the Pro model, which supports 120 W wired charging. However, we will have to take care of such a charger ourselves.

Design Xiaomi 14T Pro. What does the latest smartphone from a company from the Middle Kingdom look like?

In terms of design, Xiaomi 14T Pro is distinguished by a metal casing, which, according to the manufacturer, is 116% more resistant to bending and damage than previous models. The curved back on the sides, but at the same time flat edges, make the smartphone fit well and quite securely in the hand – although the metal is rather slippery. Metallic details give the device an elegant look, and you may also like the camera island – it doesn’t protrude like other smartphones are used to, so the phone doesn’t particularly “flex” when it lies flat. The island is the color of the smartphone itself, and there are 4… well, not lenses, because we have three of them here, but the flash was designed to be “one” with the cameras. In the very center of the island you will find the Leica logo.

Xiaomi 14T Pro is available in three colors: Titan Gray, Titan Blue and Titan Black, i.e. gray, blue and black. I got my hands on a blue copy. The buttons responsible for controlling the volume and unlocking the smartphone are located on the right edge, while the left one remains completely empty – the SIM slot is on the lower edge, to the left of the USB-C connector. The smartphone looks equally good from the front, especially thanks to the slim frames that are only 1.7 mm wide. The new Xiaomi smartphone also has an IP68 certificate, which ensures resistance to water and dust, and thus additional protection in everyday use.

You may like the screen in Xiaomi 14T Pro

Xiaomi 14T is equipped with a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels, CrystalRes technology and 144 Hz refresh rate. The last statistic may be especially pleasing, considering the fact that even premium smartphones often do not offer it yet. The screen reaches a brightness of up to 4,000 nits and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and additionally, the smartphone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. You simply can’t fault the display – it’s a high standard.

What will we find inside?

Xiaomi’s T series smartphones usually offer similar functionality to the main line, but at a lower price – and the lower amount you have to pay for these phones is due to the fact that the company uses more economical components, weaker processors or alternative camera solutions. And in the case of 14T Pro it was the CPU.

The heart of Xiaomi 14T Pro is not – as in the case of Xiaomi MIX Flip – Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, but MediaTek Dimensity 9300+, which – according to Xiaomi – guarantees 37 percent better performance compared to the 14T model. The Immortalis-G720 graphics system is also used here, and the advanced 3D IceLoop system is responsible for cooling. The smartphone also has 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and data space in 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB variants with UFS 4.0 technology. You can see the benchmark test results below.

Xiaomi 14T Pro offers a 5000 mAh battery, with 120 W HyperCharge wired charging, which allows for a full charge in just 19 minutes. This is a huge difference compared to Xiaomi 14T, which charges with a power of 67 W. It is a pity that – let us remind you – the charger is not included in the set. Additionally, the Pro model supports 50 W wireless charging.

Let’s get to the main star. What are the cameras on the 14T Pro?

You may like the cameras in Xiaomi 14T Pro. The main camera with a resolution of 50 MP and an aperture of f/1.6 lets in 32% more light, which significantly improves the quality of photos in low light. The Light Fusion 900 optical sensor and the Dual Native ISO function further improve image quality, especially in dynamic scenes. The camera also offers a wider focal range – from 15 mm to 120 mm, which gives you more freedom in photography. The telephoto lens in the Pro version is a 50 MP Leica with f/2.0 aperture and 60 mm equivalent focal length, and the ultra-wide-angle Leica lens is 12 MP (f/2.2, 15 mm equivalent, 120° viewing angle). On the front we have a 32 MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 50 mm equivalent focal length and 80.8 ° viewing angle. You can see a small sample of the camera’s capabilities below. The AI interference is quite visible, especially in night mode photos with high zoom.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro will also handle video quite well. In cinema mode, the smartphone allows you to record videos in 2.39:1 aspect ratio, and thanks to the Cinematic Blur and Rack Focus effects, you can create professional shots with a blurred background. Director mode gives you advanced control over parameters in real time. Additionally, the MasterCinema mode allows you to record HDR movies in 10-bit Rec. 2020 format, in resolution up to 4K at 30 frames per second.

HyperOS i AI

AI in the Xiaomi 14T Pro series is available primarily in the camera, improving our photos, but not only. Here we find Google’s Circle to Search feature, which allows you to search for any screen elements – both text and images – without having to switch applications. The series is also equipped with Google Gemini, i.e. “ChatGPT from Google”, and AI Interpreter, which enables real-time translation during conversations or meetings. Additionally, AI Notes and AI Recorder support speech-to-text transcription, making it easier to create notes and summaries. AI Image Editing offers advanced photo editing tools, and AI Eraser Pro allows you to remove unwanted elements from images. The AI Film feature allows you to easily create cinematic videos, and AI Portrait generates personalized avatars.

The Xiaomi 14T series smartphones run on the Xiaomi HyperOS system, which debuted with the Xiaomi 14 models. This system, which at first glance is very reminiscent of iOS (which for me, as an everyday iPhone user, is quite pleasant and intuitive) allows Seamlessly switch between devices, offering features such as call sync, app transfer and playback transfer. There is also a Link to Windows option, which allows you to integrate your smartphone with your computer.

Summary and price

Xiaomi 14T Pro is very pleasant to use. The smartphone works really well and although I haven’t had a chance to test it in all areas yet, overall I’m really satisfied. I’m happy with Dual SIM, I’m happy with eSIM support (POCO F6 Pro, I’m looking at you), 5G and NFC, the design can be liked, the 144 Hz screen, 120 W charging and the cameras are also up to the task. But what’s the catch? Price.

Xiaomi 14T Pro was priced at PLN 3,999 in our country. This is the same as the basic iPhone 16. Xiaomi’s smartphone from the “budget” line costs the same as the latest Apple smartphone. I know that Xiaomi abandoned the image of a cheap company some time ago and that’s why it has Redmi, but it still shocks me a bit. And I’m not comparing these two smartphones with each other at this point, because the screen refresh rate of the 14T Pro definitely wins, but this fact simply causes me considerable consternation.

These are just the premiere first impressions after a short time spent with the smartphone, but this is not everything we are preparing for you. Stay tuned for the full Xiaomi 14T Pro review, which will appear soon CHIP.pl!
