The audience had to wait a while, but in the sixth home game of the season, FC Emmen managed to win for the first time in front of its own audience. TOP Oss was defeated 2-0.
After saying goodbye to former Emmen residents Maikel Kieftenbeld, Julius Dirksen and Richard Moes before the match, FC Emmen started the match a little stronger, without any big chances. A free ball from Torben Rhein disappeared half a meter over Mike Havekotte’s goal. As has often happened this season, the opponent at De Oude Meerdijk collapsed and allowed the home team to take control.
The first real good chance for FC Emmen came after exactly eighteen minutes of play. Kelian Nsona started the attack from the left and found Rhein on the sixteen meters. The German playmaker looked for space to shoot and eventually found it, but his attempt could not surprise Havekotte and the goalkeeper made a skilful save.
Kopbal Nunumete
But in the 24th minute it was scored. The smallest man on FC Emmen’s side, Djenahro Nunumete, wonderfully headed in a cross from Rhein’s right side. Havekotte went to the corner, but could no longer prevent the 1-0, much to the delight of De Oude Meerdijk.
The audience at De Oude Meerdijk sat down and saw, just after the 1-0, an attempt by Nsona, from about twenty meters, that went over hard. It turned out that not everything the Frenchman touches turns into gold.
But after the lead, the level of the match dropped and there were hardly any chances before halftime, so that FC Emmen went to the dressing room with a minimal lead.
Weer Rhine
In the seventh minute of the second half, the home team finally became dangerous again. Once again Rhein was involved in the attack. His shot was saved with difficulty by Havekotte, but FC Emmen was unable to get the rebound.
After an hour of play, coach Robin Peter made three substitutions. Freddy Quispel, Tim Geypens and Robin Schouten replaced Agon Sadiku, Jalen Hawkins and Faris Hammouti.
Shortly after the triple substitution, TOP Oss had to continue with one man less when Joshua Zimmerman received his second yellow card from referee Martens and was allowed to leave with a red card. FC Emmen gained great dominance on the field and created a few good chances.
Decision
But the home side had to wait until the 85th minute when Rhein was fouled and the penalty was shot in flawlessly by Nsona. With the score 2-0, the match was over and FC Emmen could no longer avoid victory. It was already the seventh goal for Nsona this season.
It almost became even better for Emmen. But Fridolin Wagner’s attempt hit the post and Pascal Mulder’s rebound went just wide. In injury time, Nsona was close to scoring his second goal, but his header ended up in the side netting.
A little later, Martens whistled for the end of the match and the three points remained in Emmen for the first time this season and the crowd treated the team to a standing ovation.
