First “home loss” for Ledecky since 2014

Unusual race outcome for US swimming star Katie Ledecky: The seven-time Olympic champion had to admit defeat in a competition in the USA for the first time since 2014.

At the meeting in Fort Lauderdale/Florida, the 25-year-old took second place in the 200 m freestyle in 1:54.96 minutes behind 16-year-old Canadian hope Summer McIntosh. With the winning time of 1:54.13, she improved her own junior world record.

Ledecky, who has collected 18 World Championship gold medals in her career so far, was satisfied despite the defeat. “It’s been a long day – a good day,” she said, adding, “I’m happy with my 200m freestyle. It was a great race.” Ledecky is expected to compete in her fourth Summer Olympics in Paris 2024. However, she has not confirmed this yet.
