First he fell asleep, now he wants to set the trend. Fiat also wants to sell only electric cars

Fiat today offers the only electric car, the 500e minihatch. In nine years, however, its offer is to include only electric cars.

Electrification is a trend today, and so many automakers have announced their electrical plans for the coming years in recent months. While some brands “only” are planning to broaden the range of their electric cars, others are bolder and intend to limit their portfolio exclusively to electric cars. Fiat is also one of them.

“Exploring sustainable mobility for all is our biggest project. In the years 2025 to 2030, our model offer will gradually become purely electric. It will be a fundamental change for Fiat, ” announced the head of the Fiat brand Olivier François. The aim is to bring to market electric cars that will not be more expensive than cars with internal combustion engines, as battery prices fall.

However, François no longer specified whether the plan concerned only European markets or even non-European ones. While electromobility is a rapidly growing trend in Europe, for example in South America, which is an important market for Fiat, the electrical infrastructure is not yet so developed and electric cars are only a marginal issue there.

In the same way, we still have to wait for the electric Fiat to expand. Today, the brand sells the only personal electric car, the new generation 500e. There was even talk of Fiat falling asleep to the onset of electromobility. For years, he sold only in the emergency created 500e primarily intended for the USA, which had a low range due to the compromise solution. After all, access to electric car technology was one of the reasons for this year’s merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with the PSA Group.
