The first-generation iPad Pro models, released in 2015, are set to lose support for iPadOS 17, according to reports from iPhoneSoft and AppleInsider. Apple’s A9 chip, used in the fifth-generation iPad and these models, was built using a 14nm or next-gen 16nm process node, while the A9X chip that powered the iPad Pros was paired with 4GB of RAM for the 12.9-inch model and 2GB for the 9.7-inch variant. Apple ceased support for iPhone models using the A9 SoC, including the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It is unclear if any iPhone released before Q3 2017 will run on iOS 17. The WWDC on 5 June is expected to clarify the official list of compatible devices for both operating systems. iOS 17 may include new features such as additional capabilities for the Dynamic Island and Active Widgets.
