Club Brugge brings an end to a rather restless week. The Belgian top club won 2-0 against Standard Liège and Bjorn Meijer was one of the goalscorers. A sense of relief reigns at the left back.
Meijer noticed changes within the group since the appointment of interim coach Rik de Mil. “After we went down hard against both Ostend and Benfica, you know that a lot of chaos is coming your way and that something is about to happen. We put our heads together and without going into details we had a good conversation. I immediately noticed that he managed to create a positive vibe,” says Meijer after the game.
The free kick was a special moment for Meijer. “I had never taken a free kick in an official game in my professional career. So so far I have a 100 percent success rate, so that’s fine. We were ready for this.” Club Brugge had a turbulent week, in which the team was eliminated from the Champions League and coach Scott Parker was fired.
