Artificial intelligence (AI) functions are being implemented in earnest on Apple devices such as the iPhone.
Apple announced on the 28th (local time) that it will distribute iOS 18.1, the iPhone operating system that includes Apple Intelligence, its AI system. Software versions for iPad and Mac equipped with this function were also released.
Apple’s launch of this AI feature comes about four months after it was first unveiled in June. The software distributed on this day included some of Apple Intelligence’s AI functions.
Instead of having to check countless emails one by one, AI helps you check the most urgent emails, such as today’s lunch schedule or boarding passes, in a new section at the top of your inbox, and summarizes long emails.
If you don’t remember a photo, you can search for it by describing its contents, and if it contains unwanted objects or people, you can edit it.
It changes what the user has written into a ‘professional’, ‘concise’, or ‘friendly’ style, records the phone call, creates a transcript, and summarizes it.
Apple’s voice assistant ‘Siri’ allows for more natural conversations, such as understanding what users say even if they stutter slightly, and can answer numerous questions.
In the future, a function will be added to allow users to create new emojis and automatically create images according to entered text or specific requirements.
‘Siri’ performs tasks within a specific app according to user commands, such as sending a message to a friend or changing the music playback mode, and a function where ‘Siri’ provides answers to complex questions using ChatGPT is also added. .
On the day that Apple first launched its AI function, Apple’s stock price is rising by 1% on the New York stock market.
“Apple Intelligence ushers in another era for iPhone, iPad and Mac, pioneering the horizons of what users can do with entirely new experiences and tools,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “We are happy to be introducing for the first time the features of Apple Intelligence that will enrich our lives as generative AI.”
Apple also launched the all-in-one desktop iMac equipped with the latest chip ‘M4’ on this day.
The new iMac comes a year after the iMac with the M3 chip was announced in October last year. This iMac is equipped with Apple’s latest system-on-chip (SoC) called M4.
This chip was first installed in the high-end iPad model released last May.
Apple explained that the M4 iMac handles everyday tasks up to 1.7 times faster than the M1 iMac released in 2021, and high-end tasks such as photo editing and games are processed up to 2.1 times faster.
In particular, the M4 is equipped with Apple’s fastest neural engine to accelerate machine learning of artificial intelligence (AI) and supports Apple Intelligence, an AI system.
The iMac’s basic RAM (temporary storage memory) has been increased to 16GB, twice that of the previous model, and advanced options of up to 32GB can be configured.
The display maintains the same 24-inch 4.5K Retina display as before, but nano-texture technology is applied to reduce reflection and glare.
“iMac is loved by millions of users, from ordinary families to busy workers,” said John Turners, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering. “It’s open,” he said.
Apple’s Mac product line recorded sales of $7 billion in the second quarter (April to June), up about 2% from the same period last year. It accounts for approximately 8% of total sales ($85.78 billion) in the second quarter.
