First defeat of Aschaffenburg Viktoria after seven games

For the first time in seven games, the Aschaffenburg team didn’t score and consequently left the field as losers after a series of four wins and three draws.

The players did not want to sugarcoat the result. “That was a really bad start, far too little from us. A lot of things didn’t add up today,« analyzed Benjamin Baier relentlessly. In Fürth, the team could not refute the impressions of the previous weak preparatory games.

The game was relatively even in the first half. “There were problematic external conditions – difficult to pull off a good game,” commented coach Jochen Seitz. The bottom line was that the Middle Franconia still had a little more of the game. “We didn’t get in well, Fürth actually made the game,” Jan-Philipp Stein was critical.

The young professionals had the more dangerous of the few offensive actions. Shots from Adlung and Pfeil were no problem for goalkeeper Max Grün. Twice crosses flew dangerously into the penalty area, but Lucien Littbarski’s pass was unanswered, and in a similar situation a little later, Grimbs just missed.

The guest chances only came about at the end of the first round. Returnee Luca Dähn was only able to head the ball in the direction of the goal with too little pressure (43′), a shot by Benedict Laverty (45’+1) just missed.

Immediately after the restart, the hosts were able to steer the game in their direction. After a corner, Grimbs switched the fastest and made it 1-0. Stein was annoyed: “A goal after a standard situation – we already had that in preparation.”

Jochen Seitz complained, not for the first time: “We have to defend that better.” Immediately after the lead, Stein, working together with Grün, was just able to prevent Littbarski from making it 2-0. A real jolt went through the team but not. Nicolas Hebisch missed the possible turnaround, who failed with the best chance of the guests after about an hour by goalkeeper Schulz. “We got into the game a little better,” said Stein, “but then we’ll catch the counterattack.”

It was a double strike from Fürth that led to the decision ten minutes before the end. Both goals were almost identical. Grimbs put the ball across and the now 35-year-old ex-pro Daniel Adlung struck twice. “But the 1-0 was decisive for the outcome,” said Seitz. Without this goal it would have been “a typical 0-0 game”. Ultimately, however, he admitted that “the defeat was deserved. Above all, we lacked the penetrating power.«

Viktoria now has to pull herself together quickly. “We have to improve enormously,” demanded Baier. “We can’t perform like that next Saturday.” Then comes the TSV Aubstand to Schönbusch, against which Viktoria couldn’t win the last three league games.
