TAGAR.id, Jakarta – Brazil’s Ministry of Health on Friday, July 29, 2022, confirmed the first death from monkeypox in the South American country.
Vigilance Secretariat Office HealthArnaldo Medeiros, said, “Yesterday (Thursday, July 28, 2022) there was the first death reported to the Ministry of Health and today July 29, we began to declare a state of emergency regarding monkeypox.”
In a press conference, the Executive Secretary Ministry of Health Daniel Pereira said the victim was a man living in Minas Gerais State who had low immunity and comorbidities.
“This is a patient who had comorbidities and a history of chemotherapy treatment. There are indications that the reason for death was related to a virus. We are investigating the association of comorbidities in this (patient) death,” Pereira said.
Brazil has so far recorded 1,066 cases of monkeypox transmission in 16 states, mostly in São Paulo. (ps/pp)/voaindonesia.com. []
