First Day of Emission Tests in Jakarta: Stories from the Field

Jakarta

The first day of emission tests has started in Jakarta. The following are various stories from emission tests, some are ticketed, some are blurred.

Owners of motorized vehicles that do not pass the emission test will be fined by the police. The fines are hefty, namely IDR 250,000 for motorbikes and IDR 500,000 for cars. Payments are made through a trial mechanism or pay directly to the bank.

There are five emission test points in Jakarta on Friday (1/9/2023), namely Jl Perintis Kemerdekaan in East Jakarta, Jl RE Martadinata in North Jakarta, Taman Anggrek in West Jakarta, Terminal Blok M in South Jakarta, and Jl Asia Afrika in Central Jakarta.

Here are the stories from the first day of emissions testing in Jakarta:

1. Dody wanted to do an emission test but was ticketed

The first story came from Dody. This 45-year-old motorbike rider admits that he wants to take an emission test at Blok M, South Jakarta. As it turned out, this was not a free emission test event but a ticketing!

Dody could only laugh when he found out that there had been a ticket given at that location. Dody said he regretted going to the emission test location.

“Ha ha ha, the feeling is a bit regretful. (Intention) No, I don’t intend, I just saw that there was an emissions test on the way, so I entered,” said Dody in Blok M.

Dody’s motorbike is the Yamaha NMAX 2015. He has replaced his motorcycle exhaust. He felt it was this exhaust that made his motorcycle’s emissions exceed the emission threshold allowed by the state.

2. Andi’s motorbike has just been serviced

Even though the motorcycle of a resident named Andi was serviced at the garage last Thursday (31/8), in fact Andi’s motorbike still did not pass the emission test. He told this at the emission test site, the Sub-Directorate for Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya, South Jakarta.

“As a result, I was declared not qualified. Just serviced, it’s still hot. Just got serviced, it’s still hot, just changed the oil yesterday, but he said the settings weren’t good,” said Andi.

Andi admits that he came to the emission test at the Sub-Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters Voluntary. But his belief is the opposite. The motorbike did not pass the emissions test and was eventually given a ticket. Of course he had to spend Rp 250 thousand to pay the ticket.
