First day of action “brisk business” in Darmstadt

Test rides with commercial e-cargo bikes are possible on June 30th in the courtyard of the Chamber of Crafts in Darmstadt. Experts provide information about acquisition and possible uses.

DARMSTADT – As part of the “brisk trade” program to promote the commercial use of cargo bikes, the science city of Darmstadt, together with the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Crafts and the Darmstadt-Dieburg District Crafts Union, are organizing a June, for the first time an action day with a large cargo bike test course in the courtyard of the Chamber of Crafts in Darmstadt at Hindenburgstraße 1.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., interested companies, businesses and tradespeople can test and compare various e-cargo bikes and trailers. In addition, experts provide information about the different designs and possible uses as well as purchasing in general.

“Sustainable mobility is of great importance in the science city of Darmstadt,” says Lord Mayor Jochen Partsch (Greens). With the day of action, the city wants to promote the use of cargo bikes in the commercial sector as well, in order to stimulate a rethinking of urban mobility and make a contribution to climate protection.

According to the 2022 industry report by the German Cycling Logistics Association, 1.6 million kilometers were covered by cargo bikes in the commercial sector in 2021. A total of 422 tons of CO2 could thus be avoided, which corresponds to a number of 105 Sprinters with diesel engines.

In addition to other sustainable concepts such as the “lieferradDA” delivery bike service, a project of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, which is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, and the “Heinerbike”, Darmstadt now also supports the “fleet trade” program to promote the further use and distribution of promote cargo bikes.
