Hamburg’s Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had himself vaccinated against the corona virus on Friday. “A small spade and great protection that you get with such a vaccination against a malicious virus,” said the 55-year-old afterwards.
His second vaccination will be in six weeks. Then it would be “completely and very well protected against the corona virus, also against the new variants, which still make us a little worried,” said Tschentscher. The mayor was vaccinated with the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine, according to a spokesman.
Vaccination race against Delta variant
The delta variant first detected in India is on the advance and will soon dominate the infection process, said Tschentscher. “The important thing is that we get the vaccine faster than the Delta variant spreads.”
Will prioritization in the vaccination center be lifted soon?
The mayor called on all Hamburgers to arrange a vaccination appointment. There are still free appointments at the central vaccination center for those eligible from prioritization group 3, i.e. people over 60, people with previous illnesses or a job with a high risk of infection. As soon as there is no more demand from this group, the prioritization in the vaccination center will be lifted, said Tschentscher. Family doctors have been able to vaccinate anyone who wants to since June 7th.
