Iván Name, president of the Senate, assured after his meeting with President Petro that the reforms proposed by the Government will not pass without being carefully analyzed by Congress, and corrected if necessary. “It is not about accelerator or brake, it is about the traffic that the laws must have carefully and thoroughly analyzed,” said the congressman.
Yesterday at the Casa de Nariño, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, and the President of the Senate, Iván Name, met. This meeting took place 11 days after the start of a new legislature.
After the meeting with the president, Senator Iván Name assured that in the Executive there is a willingness for the government’s reforms to come out, as well as those of parliamentary origin.
“The laws must have a thorough transit. Congress is not only a law factory, it is also an instance of democracy for what is not convenient, does not come out. But we have the understanding and the disposition so that the reforms proposed by the Government and proposed by Congress come out ”, the congressman asserted.
“Congress not only analyzes the government’s reforms, but also its own internal proposals so that what is to come out in the agreements, in the process and in the analysis of the laws, is what is convenient, which I am sure will mark a positive path for the country”, complemented the current president of the Senate.

On the other hand, Name insisted that there is no extreme position of anyone and that in the independence of powers they are willing to broadly discuss the reforms.
“I am sure and I tell the country that the branches of public power will understand each other, that intelligence will prevail over good will and the desire that we all get it right so that we can give our nation the best route in adjusting its state. for your future. It must be taken into account that Senator Iván Name was surprisingly elected by the legislature as president of Congress, in a close election in which he defeated Angélica Lozano, from the Alianza Verde party (54-50).
In fact, on July 22, Name had a strong clash with the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, who issued controversial comments against his election, to which the congressman responded harshly.
“Certainly I did not meet with Minister Velasco. That is why he said that the traditional leaders had chosen me. Well yes, they also told me political bosses who carry a tradition, a track record and a presence. He was missing, who is a traditional leader defeated for years, who could not remain in Congress and they adopted him in the Government ”, said the congressman.
