First city tour in “easy language”

The excursion into the history of the city of Bad Oeynhausen and the discovery of the spa park was led by the experienced city guide Cornelia Lack and organized by Alireza Fathollahzadeh Gharabaei.

A diverse group of about 25 people from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Senegal, China and also Germany started their tour at the Church of the Resurrection, where they were first told some things about the destruction and reconstruction of the church.

Domes and mosaic floors impress

On the following walk through the spa gardens, the participants got to know the two historic bathhouses and were particularly excited to discover them from the inside. The group was amazed. Some were impressed by the imposing domes, others by the artistic mosaic floors and the little ones in particular by the “bathing cells” that are still actively used in Bathhouse II for the brine baths.

The heyday of Bad Oeynhausen after the drilling of the famous Jordan Spring and the completion of the Wandelhalle, which has already been visited by so many famous visitors such as politicians and actors, was also discussed, as was the period after the Second World War during the British occupation. The group was given a good insight into this using the new “picture avenue” between Bathhouse I and the Church of the Resurrection, which touched most of the participants very much.

Always enough time for questions

It was also an opportunity for the German participants to refresh their memory of things from history that had previously been forgotten or only marginally noticed. It was interesting for the children to taste the salt water and touch the coastal redwood.

Cornelia Lack managed to inspire and engage the people, some of whom barely spoke any German, in a very lively way. There was always time for questions and explanations, often enlivened with little anecdotes.

“A different kind of city tour. And by the way: a different kind of ‘integration’,” says Alireza Fathollahzadeh Gharabaei. He stressed that the successful event could be repeated. Inquiries can be made at [email protected].
