Dr. Rumen Velev explained that this is the first time such a case has occurred in the hospital
First, in NOVA, the director of “Sheynovo” commented on the case of exchanged children in Sofia. “Once we realized that there was such a suspicion, we immediately contacted the police. The law enforcement agencies have taken the relevant actions and things are going well,” commented Dr. Romanian Velev.
Two newborns were exchanged in a hospital in the capital
He explained that he doesn’t believe the parents of one of the children refused to provide a DNA sample. He himself found out what happened on December 7th. When asked by NOVA if there are any other similar cases in the practice of the medical institution, Dr. Velev said: “This is the first time I have witnessed such a thing in our hospital,” the doctor was categorical.
Dr. Velev also explained that an internal inspection at the medical facility has begun. He held a meeting with Health Minister Asen Medzhidiev. According to the director, there can be no question of any deliberate replacement of newborns. The social authorities are expected to take care of the two children while proceedings are underway to establish the real parents.
