London (AP) – Liverpool FC received their first defeat of the current season on the 11th matchday of the English Premier League. In the away game at West Ham United, the Reds lost 2: 3 (1: 1).
After the second winless league game in a row, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team slipped to fourth place in the table.
An own goal by keeper Alisson (4th minute) caused the Reds to fall behind early in east London. The suspicion of a previous handball by Angelo Ogbonna was refuted by the video evidence. Against low hammers Liverpool did not come to a conclusion for a long time. Only a brilliant free kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold (41st) from around 20 meters equalized.
In the second half of the intensely led game, an entertaining exchange of blows developed with chances on both sides, with West Ham being more efficient. Pablo Fornals (67th) with a low shot from outside the penalty area and Kurt Zouma (74th) with a header after a corner scored for the hosts. After the connecting goal for Liverpool by substitute Divock Origi (83), the team of coach David Moyes had to tremble until stoppage time before cheers in the London Stadium.
With 23 points, West Ham United overtook Liverpool FC (22 points) in the Premier League table and climbed to third place. In second place, champions Manchester City are tied behind leaders Chelsea FC, who have 26 points.
