Reilingen. It could be everyone. Suddenly a person passes out. The cause of the unexpected circulatory failure can be ventricular fibrillation or a cardiac arrhythmia. The heart chambers vibrate in a completely disorderly manner and thus cannot pump blood into the circulation.
274 people die of sudden cardiac death in Germany every day, more than 100,000 people per year. To increase the chances of survival, a strong electric shock can save the patient with the help of a so-called “Automated External Defibrillator” (AED). Only then can the cardiopulmonary resuscitation take effect. If the defibrillator is used quickly, the chance of survival increases from 10 to 70 percent. Anyone can become a first responder and save lives thanks to the pre-installed simple instructions. Nobody should be hesitant to use the device, because the motto of the emergency doctors applies: “Better to do something wrong with first aid than do nothing at all.”
Mayor Stefan Weisbrod is concerned with this “affair of the heart” because he, too, was confronted with such an event in his private sphere. Therefore it is important to him to sensitize the citizens to the topic. So far, the range of defibrillators in the community has been limited; there has been one in the Mannherz-Hallen for over seven years.
The offer is enlarged
In order to increase the offer across the board, the administration installed two devices in the cemetery and at the town hall. Furthermore, the commitment of the company Schaumaplast extends the life-saving offer. The company has already provided a station across from its headquarters in Industriestrasse. Another defibrillator will be installed on the club’s premises in cooperation with the SC 08 and will be accessible to everyone. zg
