First after the Taliban came to power, the UAE sent medical aid to Afghanistan

Abu Dhabi

United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a plane carrying ‘urgent medical and food aid’ to Afghanistan. This aid delivery is the first time from the UAE after the group Taliban power back in Afghanistan.

“The assistance comes within the framework of the humanitarian role played by the UAE to provide full support to the Afghan brothers in the current situation,” the UAE news agency reported. YOU, as reported by AFP, Friday (3/9/2021).

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to AFP the delivery of the humanitarian aid.

“This is a first aid flight (UAE) since the latest events in Afghanistan,” the UAE Foreign Ministry said.

Taliban fighters celebrated with gunfire on Tuesday (31/8) local time, hours after the last US troops left Kabul, ending the evacuation process and completing the military mission of the past two decades.

More than 123,000 foreign nationals and Afghans have been evacuated since the Taliban returned to power.

The US invaded Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks and ousted the then-ruling Taliban for sheltering Al-Qaeda, which the US believes was behind the 9/11 attacks. Now that the Taliban are back in power, Western countries fear Afghanistan will again become a hideout for extremists.

The UAE is one of a number of Gulf countries that are important outposts for evacuation flights for foreign nationals and Afghans, along with Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
