As a result of the slipperiness throughout the country, some accidents have already occurred on Dutch roads at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Various rush-hour lanes are closed due to dense fog or a slippery road surface, Rijkswaterstaat reports.
Several connecting roads have been closed at the Prins Clausplein interchange near The Hague since 6 a.m. due to accidents. On the A32 between Meppel and Heerenveen, the entire left lane is closed due to an accident. Road users must expect delays.
Dense fog also causes traffic jams on some highways. This is the case on the A2, for example. Traffic jams have arisen in several places, both between Maastricht and Eindhoven and between Den Bosch and Utrecht.
On the A1 between Amersfoort and Amsterdam, the rush-hour lane is closed in two places. This is the case between Hoevelaken and Barneveld, and between Hilversum-Noord and Naarden. Traffic is therefore moving slowly at other places on the A1.
On the A12 from Arnhem to Utrecht, the rush-hour lane is closed between Ede and Veenendaal-West, and on the A50 from Apeldoorn to Arnhem between Beekbergen and Waterberg.
Code orange in the south, code yellow in the rest of the country
Rijkswaterstaat warns of freezing wet road sections throughout the country. A snowfall warning will be added in the south. This creates dangerous driving conditions in North Brabant and Limburg. In those two provinces, therefore, code orange applies until noon. In the rest of the country code yellow applies until at least 9 a.m.
According to Weeronline, it will snow for a long time in the south of the country on Wednesday morning. Most snow, about 2 to 6 centimeters, is expected to fall in the southeast of North Brabant and Limburg. In the hills of Limburg even 5 to 10 centimeters of snow can fall. According to Weeronline, it can also temporarily turn white in a strip from Zeeland to Gelderland.
