A penalty taken by Anthony Modeste (33) and converted in the 120th minute only saved her in the shooting competition to the point.
But there the last attempt by Florian Kainz (29) was considered invalid because he shot himself against his left leg.
Bitter pill for the billy goats, who can no longer dream of the final in Berlin.

The 120 minutes before that had been a lot of excitement, but over some stretches it had only been playful lean fare. After a reasonable FC start with a good chance from Sebastian Andersson (8th) and an absolute 100 percent from Mark Uth (21st), the error rate in the billy goats’ game increased steadily.
As a result, the courageous Hanseatic team got better and better into the encounter and also accumulated chances, which they missed in the person of Glatzel (35th) and Heyer (45th).

The result did not change in a committed but not brilliant second half. Only in extra time did HSV go ahead with a Glatzel header (92nd) before Modeste equalized.
But it just wasn’t enough. The Baumgart team also felt a little strange over the entire course of the game with the many changes.
The trainer had rebuilt his team in six positions. The strength of the season so far fell on his feet in this game.

Because the parts of the team didn’t seem to be well-rehearsed and coordinated. Actors like Sebastian Andersson (30) or Kingsley Ehizibue (26) fell significantly and seemed almost foreign bodies.
A kind of “cup curse” continued for the billy goats, because for the seventh time in a row the FC was in the round of 16 of the cup.
But anyone who knows Steffen Baumgart knows that there can only be one goal next season: to reach the final! Maybe he’ll do without one or the other change…
