Firmware update improves battery life AirPods Max – One More Thing

Apple released the new 3C39 firmware for the AirPods Max this week. The update should improve battery life. Some AirPods Max‌ headphones even drained the battery in the Smart Case. There are now indications that the update does indeed fix the problem. The bug, which sometimes causes Apple’s headphones to lose its connection, also seems to be resolved.

Developer Guilherme Rambo tested “the battery drain of his AirPods Max” before and after the firmware update. He looked at how much battery life was lost while the AirPods Max was in the Smart Case. Battery consumption was measured in half-hour intervals. As the graphs show, the AirPods Max battery inside the Smart Case actually lost less power after the firmware update.

In addition to Rambo’s tests, reports have also surfaced in various user forums, where users of Apple’s headphones come to the same conclusion. Also the bug Other MacRumors readers have noticed improvements in automatic switching when using ‌AirPods Max. It also seems the bug that could sometimes cause the headphones to lose the connection with other Apple devices. The posts below are from the MacRumors forum, where two members shared their experience:

F23: Updated yesterday. 24 hours later, he lost NO percent. Still at 97% after 24 hours in the Smart Case. On the previous software version, I would consistently lose more than 10% overnight.

TechKris: I can report a 6% battery drop with the new FW placed in the case after about 8 hours at night. Automatic switching between M1 MacBook Air and iPhone seems to be going much better now. It was previously unusable and had just manually set it up on the Mac.

According to 9to5Mac the firmware update appears to put the ‌AirPods Max‌ into an ‘ultra low power mode’ after 30 minutes. Before the firmware update, AirPods Max went into a power saving mode when placed in the case. Only after 18 hours did the headphones switch to ultra-low energy mode. About this is on the website from Apple, however, nothing can be found (yet).

There is no clear user-friendly way to update the firmware for the AirPods Max, as is the case with your iPhone or Mac, for example. However, connecting the AirPods Max to a power source and then listening to music for a few seconds so that the headphones are connected to your iPhone or iPad will automatically initiate the firmware update.

You can check the firmware version of your ‌AirPods Max‌ by following these steps:

  1. Connect your ‌‌AirPods Max‌‌‌ to your iOS device
  2. Open Settings on your iPhone / iPad
  3. Tap on General
  4. Tap on Over
  5. Tap onAirPods‌‌‌‌‌
  6. Look at the number next to it Firmware version

Here must now 3C39 stand.
