Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has dismissed three governors, including the governor of Luhansk, where the front line in the war against Russia is.
There has been no immediate explanation for the changes, which were announced on Telegram by the government’s representative in the National Assembly.
Luhansk governor Serhiy Hajdaj has regularly provided updates and comments on the warfare in the region, which is located in north-east Ukraine, towards the border with Russia. In several media it is said that he will get a new job as ambassador to Kazakhstan.
Zelenskyi has also fired the governors of Odesa, located on the Black Sea, and Khmelnytskyi in the west of the country. The resignations come after concern in the West over widespread corruption in Ukraine, and Zelenskyi has already fired several high-ranking officials this year.
Five governors have either been removed from office or resigned.
