Two other fireworks landed close to the pitch, after which the pitch and the match taking place in Basildon, Essex at the Salmon Stadium had to be abandoned. The Hashtag United’s reserves were leading the match with 2-0. Police had been notified, according to the club.
Finding the Culprit
Spencer Owen, the YouTuber who founded Hashtag United, also took to Twitter to voice his opinion. “A few inches different and our lad could have been blinded,” he said. “Yet another reason to add to the list of reasons to sack off fireworks.”
Now, police are looking at videos of the incident and CCTV footage and hope that anyone who knows the responsible individuals will come forward.
