Mira Dobreva will present her book “Fireflies behind bars” in Burgas on March 12. The editor of the novel is the writer Vladimir Zarev, and the publisher is Knigomania. The place of the premiere is Grand Hotel and SPA Primorets, the meeting will start at 18:00. Admission is free, everyone is welcome. There will be talks, questions and answers, books and autographs.
This is the second book for the popular TV journalist, after Centenarians – a blessing or a curse (2020)
The new work is a novel based on a real case and follows a difficult and painful story from real life – the destinies of two women – Valma and Kudrina, marked by alcohol addiction, along with the decline of values, spiritual emptiness and alienation that addiction leads to. The author’s mission is to warn and publicize how difficult it is to fight this problem both from a human point of view and at an institutional level.
Behind the writing of the novel are long studies of specialized literature, visits to health facilities for people suffering from addictions, consultations with specialists such as Dr. Tsveteslava Galabova, director of psychiatric hospital “St. John of Rila”.
The theme also finds a place in the film “Carousel” produced by Mira Dobreva, broadcast in June 2023 in the documentary series “In Frame” on BNT. It is no coincidence that one of the chapters in the novel is also called that.
“I allowed myself to violate all generally accepted norms in writing. I allowed myself the brutality and cruelty of the words that I poured out on the pages of the novel” – says Mira Dobreva and adds: “I didn’t know that climbing the ridge of such a high mountain as writing is such an exhausting and demanding process. I don’t know if it turned out to be a good book, but it is a book outside the cliché, an unexpected book. Strikes like lightning, just shoots! A book of trial, a book of hope, a book of warning.“
“The strongest quality of this novel is that it is written with great love for these sufferers. Without accusations and lectures, but with a warm feeling of concern. Because alcoholism is a disease, and a sick person needs attention and love. Alcoholism is a way of life, but also a mental illness where the soul is broken. And every broken soul needs another to love it and glue the pieces together” – sums up the popular lady from the TV screen about her first novel.
Valma and Kudrina end up on two adjacent beds in the psychiatric hospital. Will they be able to overcome the sickness of their souls? Will a saving friendship be born?
Find out in this warm, human, and very realistic book that examines illness as a way of growing up, forgiveness as self-knowledge and overcoming the ego, and affirms the belief that tomorrow holds the promise of something better.
Mira Dobreva will be waiting for you on March 12 at 18:00 in “Primorets”.
