On Saturday June 11, the firefighters of the Méjannes-le-Clap rescue center went on a preparation exercise in the field.
“This is an annual one-day maneuver that our Rescue Center carries out as the summer season approaches in order to carry out a general review of our forest fire response processes. “, explains Christian Banides, commander of the Méjannes-le-Clap barracks.
In the morning, all the heads of units, about ten officers and non-commissioned officers, met at the barracks for the whole theoretical part.
A total of thirty men and women
At the center of concerns: the safety of personnel and the quality of communications throughout the response chain, from the field near the fire to the surveillance or intervention aircraft.
In the afternoon, machine operators and firefighters were invited to practical field exercises.
A total of thirty men and women firefighters took part, under the direction of the two chief warrant officers, Philippe Raoux and Lionel Gauthier. A good part of the practice also took place in the forest fires declared during the day in Aigaliers and Serviers-Labaume.
“ For these manoeuvres, we benefited from machines lent by the barracks of Barjac, Saint-Ambroix and Uzès, I thank them for that”, continues Christian Banides.
“ Every day in the summer, thirteen to eighteen people, officers, non-commissioned officers and sappers from Méjannes, will be mobilized at the barracks, on call at home or in the field as a preventive measure. We must be as close as possible in the event of a fire outbreak. This is why surveillance vehicles will be stationed and patrolled permanently. The pitches are fixed by the Codis each day for the next day, according to the updated riskssays Christian Banides. In this context, one of the vehicles of the barracks of Méjannes is mobilized all summer. It’s about quickly detecting and attacking incipient fires. We will also have an advanced aid station in Cornillon from 11 July, with an ambulance vehicle supplied alternately by our barracks and the surrounding barracks. With well-trained firefighters and the prevention measures in place, we are ready to face the forest fire season. “, detailed the commander of the caser. These prevention measures will be put in place from the beginning of July. Even if the fire season has already started.
Last week, the firefighters of Méjannes-le-Clap were called in for reinforcement in Ardèche and on other fires in the Gard.
