Munich – On Friday night, two electric cars caught fire on a company premises in the Sendling district of Munich. According to information from the Munich fire department, it was a VW e-Golf. Passers-by noticed the fire and called 911.
The Munich fire brigade could already see the burning vehicles on the way there. However, their access to the premises – the training center of Stadtwerke München – was blocked by a gate. They could only have opened this with a key if the fire alarm system (BMA) was triggered, which was not the case at this time.
Therefore, the firefighters used scaling ladder parts to get over the gate. Two teams with C-pipes were able to quickly extinguish the flames and prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent building. For safety, emergency services checked the rooms there. No damage was found.
At the same time, colleagues lifted the two e-Golfs with a hydraulic spreader. This allowed them to check the temperature of the traction batteries with a thermal imaging camera. This was within the normal range.
A towing company then transported the cars to an open space. Summary of the fire: Total damage to both vehicles. The police must now determine the cause of the fire.
