An extremely strong storm occurred in the afternoon on the border of the Vysočina and Pardubice regions. At Kadov station, over fifty millimeters of rain fell in half an hour. The Moravian-Silesian Region was also dealing with storms, and according to meteorologists, there is a threat of storms throughout the Czech Republic on Sunday as well. On the night of Monday, the storms will change to rain, especially in the Czech Republic it may be more abundant.
Storms hit the Moravian-Silesian region already in the morning and then again in the afternoon, when they arrived around 4:00 p.m. “From that time until 7:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a total of 73 incidents in connection with the passing storm. Most of them involved fallen and broken trees and branches, as well as pumping water from garages and basements of family houses,” summed up the spokesman of the Moravian-Silesian fire department, Lukáš Popp.
“The most storms are in Novojičín, Opava and also in the Beskydy. Even here, storms are accompanied by torrential rain,” said ČT24 editor Marek Slavík in the evening, who followed the situation in Frýdecko-Místek. “Frýdek-Místek was hit by several storms. The water flooded some streets and parking lots,” he added.

Firefighters had the most interventions in the Karviná district, where they intervened in nineteen places. There were seventeen of them in the Opava district and two less in Novojičín. In the vicinity of the city of Vítkov, according to meteorologists, it rained around fifty millimeters per hour in the morning. “Thunderstorm activity will temporarily weaken during the night. Strong thunderstorms will resume again on Sunday, August 18, they can appear anywhere in our territory,” they said.
In the Zlín Region, firefighters pumped water from basements and garages in the afternoon and evening, cleared fallen trees and cleaned blocked culverts. From 5:00 p.m., they went to almost thirty incidents, four of which involved loose roofs. They were also occupied by the crushed stream bank or the mud on the road. Before the twenty-first hour, the situation calmed down. Firefighters in the Kroměříž region registered the most exits.
Before 4 p.m., an extremely strong storm struck on the border of the Vysočina and Pardubice regions. “Specifically, over 50 millimeters of rain fell in 30 minutes at the Kadov station, and even hail is not ruled out,” meteorologists said.
Warning
Strong thunderstorms are mostly local and their manifestations only affect a limited area in a short time. “The warning only shows where there is the greatest potential and the most favorable conditions for such storms to occur,” meteorologists said.
According to them, this does not mean that where the warning is in effect, this phenomenon will occur everywhere and throughout its duration. They recommend monitoring the development and progress of storms at the output of meteorological radars in the mobile application of the ČHMÚ or on the website www.chmi.cz.
“A larger band of precipitation with nested thunderstorms is passing over Bohemia, and isolated showers and thunderstorms are beginning to increase in Moravia,” meteorologists said on Saturday afternoon. In the following hours, we expect that especially in the eastern/southeastern half of the territory, storms will continue to increase, some of them will intensify and will be able to produce torrential rain, wind gusts of around seventy kilometers per hour and hail.
There is also a warning against high temperatures in the Moravian region, where they can rise above thirty-one degrees in some places. The fire danger warning for South Moravia will be ended by the expected rain on Saturday evening.
