At 20.07 the police received a report of a burning cabin at Skammestein in Øystre Slidre. The cabin was on fire when the message arrived.
According to police, the fire started as a pipe fire, which then developed.
Four people were in the cabin when the fire started and everyone quickly got out on their own, according to operations director Kristian Bjaanes at the Innlandet police precinct.
Controlled combustion
At 10.30pm a controlled cabin fire is underway.
– We received a message at 20.07. The message was that it was a pipe fire that had gone out at full speed. There were four people in the cabin and the message was sent to all emergency services. Valdres Fire and Rescue was the first to arrive at the scene, and all four made it out safely, Police Activity Chief Tina Haug told the OA reporter at the scene.
When OA arrived on the scene at around 9:30pm, the cabin was still fully ablaze.
– As you can see, the cabin was completely engulfed in flames, and now it’s actually a controlled fire, says Haug.
Take care of health
There is no risk of spreading.
– There are no nearby cabins and firefighters have good control of the fire, says Haug.
The four people who were in the cabin were taken into care by the ambulance service and the police. They didn’t want to talk to OA.
– The four who were in the cabin were checked in an ambulance and are being followed by the emergency services, says the operation manager.
Open flames
Fire Chief of the Valdre Fire and Rescue Service, Laila Lien Østgård, told OA just after 8:30pm that the first fire brigade unit was on the scene.
– There were open flames upon arrival. The first message I received in town indicated excessive ignition, she said.
Østgård said the first unit has started shutting down and three more are on the way, plus police and healthcare.
Operations director Kristian Bjaanes in the Innlandet police precinct told OA at 9:00pm that police are at the scene.
– The extinction is underway, he told OA.
