A minute of silence was observed Tuesday at the National Assembly in tribute to the 24-year-old firefighter who died this weekend during an intervention in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis). However, there is “no link” between his death and the urban violence that has affected France for a week.
The president of the Renaissance group Aurore Bergé drew the wrath of the opposition on Tuesday, after having linked the death of master corporal Dorian Damelincourt in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) to the riots which have shaken the country since Tuesday last. A minute of silence was even observed in his honor in the Hemicycle.
“Sunday evening, a 24-year-old man died. Died on duty to protect us from the riots and (their) consequences. His name was Dorian Damelincourt,” said the president of the majority group in the National Assembly on Tuesday. during the government’s question time (QAG). The opportunity for Aurore Bergé to reproach the elected La France insoumise for having “refused to call for calm”.
Some denounce “a political recovery”
However, the death of the young firefighter has no connection with the riots linked to the death of Nahel, as confirmed by the Bobigny prosecution and the Paris firefighters on Monday to BFMTV. Master Corporal Dorian Damelincourt died of cardiac arrest while responding to a “covered parking lot fire” during an intervention overnight from Sunday to Monday.
What to do to react the deputies La France insoumise, targeted by the attack of Aurore Bergé. “It’s shameful to instrumentalize the death of a man”, was indignant Éric Coquerel, LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis on Twitter. “The death of Master Corporal Dorian Damelincourt occurred Monday morning in my constituency to put out a fire whose origin has no known connection with the events of recent days”.
“The courage of this 24-year-old young man and his memory deserve a solemn tribute from the assembly, and not a political recovery,” he added.
“A few days ago, they were the victims of the attack in Annecy. Today, it is the death of a firefighter who has nothing to do with the riots”, also annoyed Clémentine Autain, the LFI deputy from the same department on the social network. “From one drama to another, Aurore Bergé walks her indecency and soils the memory of the victims. Shame on her”.
“It’s anything but irrelevant!”, Defended Aurore Bergé in the face of protests from deputies in the National Assembly, before once again supporting the police “for their action”.
